Your smile is everything! It’s the first thing people see when they meet you, and it can really have a lasting impression. If you’re a little embarrassed of your crooked smile, then David C. Woods Family & Cosmetic Dentistry has the solution. Since 2016, we’ve been using Invisalign to help many of our patients achieve the perfect smile they’ve always dreamed of. Still, some individuals still have apprehensions. That’s normal, and also why we’re letting you in on some very important Invisalign tips.
1. Switch Before Bed
Popping in a new Invisalign set right before bed ensures that you get a full six to eight hours of consistent wear. Not only does this make adjusting your teeth easier for you, but it can also make the Invisalign process go more smoothly. Think about it: During the day, you’re constantly putting your trays in and taking them out. But you can’t do this while you sleep. That’s why we recommend you make the switch before heading to bed.
2. Avoid Colored Lollipops and Lozenges
While it might be tempting to swipe that piece of candy or pop a lozenge without thinking, you should probably take a pause and remove your trays. Colored suckers and candies will not play nice with your Invisalign trays. In fact, sucking on these hard candies while wearing your trays can allow cavities to brew and turn your trays an unwanted color. So before you pop that cherry sucker, remove your Invisalign, or you’ll be stuck with a red-stained smile for a while.
3. Carry a Dental Kit
People often choose to go with Invisalign because of its invisibility and convenience. While your invisible trays are more convenient than standard brackets and wires, you should consider keeping a dental kit nearby. To prevent cavities or tooth decay, you should always put in your aligners when your teeth are clean. This means you’ll need a quick and easy way to brush, rinse, or floss after every meal, and a dental kit in your car or purse will provide everything you need.
4. Use Matte Lip Color
It’s a common misconception that you have to give up lip color altogether while you travel through your trays. However, that’s not the case. It’s all about using the right colors and products. Matte lipsticks tend to be the best option since they dry quickly and set before you make any lip movements. You definitely will want to avoid using glossy or shimmery colors since these can stick to your trays without you knowing it.
5. Your Case Is Your Friend
Nothing can be more embarrassing than forgetting to take your case to dinner and having to wrap your trays in a napkin. This practice also puts you at risk for the wait staff inadvertently picking up the bundle, thinking it’s trash. So, if you want to avoid dumpster diving for your trays after dinner, then take your case with you wherever you go. Keep it in your backpack, purse, or car. Just do whatever you have to to keep your trays from ending up in the trash.
